I liked the friendly warm atmosphere from the barman to the receptionist and waitresses, we enjoyed our stay very much.
We came to Yorkshire specifically to see where childhood hero James Herriot had lived and worked. When we found the hotel online and it mentioned a room overlooking the market square, I knew that was the one I wanted. Arriving as the market was in full swing showed the character and charm of this lovely town. We had only planned a brief stay - a day and night - breaking up the trip from London to Edinburgh. Now that I've been here once, I would love to return
Just to say a really big thank you for a wonderful stay last weekend - 31st May 1st June. We had a marvellous stay and the hotel, staff and facilities were excellent and the glowing reviews that you get on various websites and forums do not do you justice.
As I said the staff were excellent and please pass on my thanks to them all you can be really proud of them and the service that they provide. The rooms and facilities were spotless.
letter from guests in Room 11
Thanks so much for making our party so welcome we are looking forward to our next stay with you the staff were so friendly the food fantastic in a hotel with so much character keep the good work up (fantastic break)
My family and I (12 of us) had Sunday lunch here not long ago. What a treat! I haven't been here for a long time and was so pleased with the whole experience. The food was superb, the service second to none and was very good value for money. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Well done to the Golden Fleece!
FEBRUARY 2013 "A quiet, creative and restful space"
I felt almost at home in a place I did not know, and I am often restless in surroiundings I don't know but the staff were especially couteous, and the room restful and quiet
It was very near where my daughter and grandaughter live, and I felt it was ok to bring them there, have afternoon tea etc, and I just felt content with my stay
Lovely hotel right in the hear of the market square. Good centre for touring in the area
NOVEMBER 2012 "Good value for money service and accommodation."
We enjoyed our overnight stay at the Golden Fleece and would return again if we were in the area, as we were visiting the falconry centre the next day.
The hotel is right in the middle of Thirsk so it was a good location. We ate in the restaurant and the food there was really good. The bar area with open fire made the atmosphere really nice and cosy
OCTOBER 2012 GOLDEN WEDDING THANKS
I couldn't let too much time elapse before puting pen to paper to thank you most sincerely for the way you organised our Golden Wedding lunch on Saturday.
Everything looked lovely in the Richmond Room and I felt quite overcome when I saw it. I didn't realise your were putting the gold balloons up and they together with the floral displays and gold on the able made the room seem so welcoming and cosy.
I am sure everyone enjoyed their lunch and from the feedback we got some very positive remarks. The service was excellent........
Staff who went out of their way to help. Especially James. Nothing was too much trouble. Fluffy towels - very important. Comfy beds. Safe parking.
Stayed for the bank holiday Sunday and what a brill night away. Staff brilliant, food really good and the whole experience was just classier that the run of the mill stays. On arrival the check in was 1st class and the room was ready even though we were early. We were informed of the use of the large and free car park then shown the room. The room was good, bathroom excellent and the little touches of quality gel, soap etc was nice. Located right in the center of thirsk all needs were on the doorstep. Had a good day around Thirsk and decided to eat in the hotel - Great choice. Food, service and atmosphere excellent and with a touch of class and attention to the customer needs. Breakfast was very good and the service again was first class.
Would stay again and recommend to family and friends.
This place has improved dramatically over the last few years. Nice town square location. Food in the restaraunt superb
AUGUST 2012 "Good relaxing stay"
Jo and her staff are brilliant they are friendly, nothing is a bother to them even though they were busy as it was race day they had time for everyone
I just wanted to e.mail and let you all know how thoroughly we enjoyed our recent stay at 'The Fleece' We were all impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff, the spotlessness of the whole hotel and of course the wonderful breakfast and last but not least the straight forward bring your dogs attitude, which as dog owners we really appreciate!
Lovely old fashioned coaching inn, with plenty of charm, lovely staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, and delicious breakfast
FEBRUARY 2012 "loved everything about the hotel but especially our room"
very very enjoyable
CHRISTMAS 2011 "Pleasurable stay."
Stayed Christmas Day into Boxing Day, fabulous family breakfast for Boxing Day made even more enjoyable by friendly attentive staff. Four grandparents stayed at the Fleece, joined by sons, daughters and grandchildren for breakfast. Well done the Golden Fleece
SEPTEMBER 2011 "Great location, comfortable room with good food"
Stayed at the The Golden Fleece, with family from Australia, who wanted to visit the Herriot Museum. The hotel gave everything we could ask for, comfortable room, good food and in the centre of town, really great.
SEPTEMBER 2011 "Quirky Bedroom"
One night stay in a hotel we have known for over fifty years. Very friendly service and good food. Likes: Location and friendly service. The Dick Turpin room was not for the faint hearted but we loved it. Dislikes: None
JULY 2011 "Perfect Location in Pretty Market Town"
Good breakfast, Lovely evening meals, clean nice hotel, overlooking the main square of the town. Nice friendly staff. Would go back again.
JULY 2011 "Excellent location, very helpful and friendly"
Brilliant, loved the area
Stayed in the Dick Turpin Room, this has to be the quirkiest hotel room I have ever stayed in! 4-poster bed, separate landing for bathroom - all very clean and comfortable. Lovely staff - will definitely stay here again!
Central location, staff were very helpful and friendly, I was alone on business but felt welcome and at ease in the bar in the evening. Room was clean and cosy, food was excellent.
OCTOBER 2010 "Old world charm and comfort"
I had not stayed in this hotel for five years. I was so pleased to find it had changed so little. The floors are still uneven and creaky. The decor is homely. The staff are still helpful and friendly
10th JULY 2010 "Really enjoyed our stay in a lovely hotel in pleasant surroundings"
A chance for us to get away for a night while our son was on a school trip in London for the weekend, arrived at lunchtime on Friday and left mid morning on Saturday and we had a perfect 24 hours....
29th JUNE 2010
The hotel was in a convenient position for a journey South to North through the UK. We liked the original features of the old Coaching Inn.
10th JUNE 2010 "Great break in a lovely location"
I visited Yorkshire (along with my partner and another couple) for a friends 50th birthday celebration. We stayed two nights at the Golden Fleece in Thirsk. The hotel has history and is not a bland, faceless modern establishment. Okay, the floor boards creek and the place looks a little tired in places (it is after all a few hundred years old!), but you get a friendly welcome, a comfortable, clean room and a decent breakfast at a fair price.
22nd MARCH 2010
Set in a lovely part of Yorkshire with easy access to visitor attractions. Staff very accommodating, good food and a friendly bar.
FEBRUARY 2010 "Very enjoyable weekend"
An old well appointed hotel. We had a lovely room overlooking the Market Place, the bar area had a roaring fire with some very interesting beers with a proper pub atmosphere. An excellent breakfast.
